Quick answer
Yes. A taxi can deliver a parcel without a passenger when the taxi company offers deliveries. Sydney Maxi Taxi runs same-day parcel and luggage deliveries across greater Sydney, with updates on the way and proof of delivery. Send the pickup and drop-off addresses, the size and weight and your deadline, and we confirm a fixed price before you book.
Can a taxi deliver a parcel in Sydney?
Yes, if the taxi company takes delivery jobs. Sydney Maxi Taxi does. A driver collects the item and takes it straight to the drop-off address the same day, anywhere across greater Sydney, with no passenger on board. You get updates on the way and proof of delivery when it's handed over.
If you're using another taxi company, ask whether it takes goods-only jobs before you book. With us it's a regular booking: our parcel delivery service handles anything from an envelope of signed originals to a suitcase left behind at a hotel.
Think of it as booking a taxi for the parcel instead of a person. You give us the pickup and drop-off, we confirm a fixed price before you book, and the driver who collects the item is the one who hands it over at the other end.
When is a taxi delivery better than a courier network?
When the item is urgent or awkward, or has to arrive by a set time today. A standard courier network collects your parcel, sorts it through a depot and delivers it on a run with many other stops; a direct taxi delivery skips the depot and drives straight to the drop-off.
| Direct taxi delivery | Standard courier network | |
|---|---|---|
| Route | Straight from pickup to drop-off | Through a depot, then out on a multi-stop delivery run |
| Timing | Pickup time and deadline agreed when you book | Set by the service level you pay for |
| Handling | One driver from collection to handover | Sorted and moved with other parcels |
| Price | A fixed quote for the job | Usually cheaper for parcels that aren't urgent |
| Best for | Urgent, fragile, valuable or after-hours items | Routine parcels with no hard deadline |
Many couriers sell direct same-day services too, and for a routine parcel a standard service is usually the cheaper choice. A taxi delivery earns its place when the deadline matters more than the price. A few examples from around Sydney:
- Urgent documents. A contract needs a wet-ink signature in Parramatta by 3 pm and the signatory is in the CBD. That's a straight run against a deadline, which is exactly what a direct delivery is for.
- Forgotten luggage. A guest checks out of a Darling Harbour hotel and leaves a suitcase in the wardrobe. If the hotel will release it to a driver, the bag can reach its owner the same day.
- Keys. You're locked out in Cronulla and the spare set is with family in Chatswood. A driver collects the keys and brings them to you, and nobody has to leave work to do it.
- After-hours jobs. A Surry Hills cafe needs a replacement part before Saturday trade, and the supplier's next courier run is Monday. The supplier hands it to our driver on Friday night instead.
A direct delivery has limits too. It's still a vehicle in Sydney traffic, so a 5 pm deadline across the harbour needs an early pickup, and it can't hand anything to a recipient who's already gone home. Plan for both and the rest is straightforward.
What can you send with a same-day taxi delivery?
Most everyday items that are packed securely and fit in the vehicle, from documents and keys to boxes and suitcases. Tell us what the item is, its size and weight, and anything fragile or high in value before we collect it.
- Signed contracts, tender documents and other originals that can't be emailed
- Luggage left at a hotel, an office or a relative's house
- Keys, ID cards and building access passes
- Samples, display material and boxes for an event or a client meeting
- A gift that has to arrive on the day
Size decides the vehicle. An envelope fits in anything in our fleet; several suitcases or a stack of boxes are a job for the large luggage space of a maxi van. Give us rough dimensions and weights rather than "medium", because one person's medium box is another person's bar fridge.
For luggage, line up the handover first. If a hotel concierge or a friend is releasing the bag, tell them a driver is coming and give them the name on the booking, so nobody refuses to hand it over at the desk.
Electronics need a quick word first. Australia Post treats lithium batteries as dangerous goods and limits how they can be sent, so if the item is a laptop, a phone or anything else with a lithium battery, tell us exactly what it is and we confirm whether we can take it.
Pack it for a car ride: a padded envelope for documents, a sealed box for anything loose, old labels covered, and the recipient's name and mobile number on the outside.
What can't you send in a taxi delivery?
Dangerous goods, illegal items and anything that needs a special licence to carry. Our terms of service rule them out, and because some everyday products count as dangerous goods, check before you pack.
Australia Post's guidance is a handy general reference for what counts as a dangerous good. Its examples include:
- Flammable liquids, such as nail polish, paint and perfume
- Flammable solids, such as safety matches
- Aerosols, such as butane cigarette lighters
- Explosives, such as flares, fireworks and ammunition
- Corrosives, such as batteries
Its list also covers gases and poisons. It's Australia Post's list, not ours, and the two won't line up item for item, so treat it as a guide. If anything in your parcel looks like it belongs there, ask before you book and we'll give you a straight answer.
Watch for gifts in particular. Perfume and nail polish are both flammable liquids on Australia Post's list, and a gift hamper can easily hold one of each.
How is a same-day delivery in Sydney quoted?
On the job itself: the distance between the addresses, the time of day, the size of the item and any waiting or extra stops. Send those details and we confirm a fixed price before you book, and the price we quote is the price you pay unless the job changes.
| Detail | Why we ask |
|---|---|
| Pickup address and contact name | So the driver knows where to go and who to call on arrival |
| Drop-off address and contact name | So the driver can reach the person receiving it |
| Size, weight and number of items | It decides which vehicle we send |
| Ready time and deadline | When it can be collected and when it has to arrive |
| Fragile or valuable contents | Our terms ask you to tell us before we collect it |
| Access notes | Loading docks, security desks and visitor sign-in all take time |
Don't skip the access notes. A North Sydney tower with a loading dock round the back and a security desk that signs in every visitor can add real minutes to a drop-off, and the quote should allow for them.
Handing something to a traveller at Sydney Airport takes a plan as well. Taxi drivers can't leave their vehicles while stopped outside the terminals, except at designated pre-booked taxi bays, so agree with us beforehand where the recipient will meet the car.
If the job changes after you book (a different address, an extra stop, a long wait at the pickup), the price can change too. We tell you about any change before the job or as soon as practicable.
Can you book after-hours and regional deliveries?
After hours, yes: we're open 24 hours, 7 days, including public holidays. For deliveries outside greater Sydney, ask first. We run regular trips to the Central Coast, Newcastle, Wollongong, the Blue Mountains and the Hunter Valley, and give a fixed quote on request.
At night, plan the drop-off end first. Office lobbies lock and loading docks close, so give us an after-hours contact at the receiving end and the building's security desk number if it has one.
Public holidays work the same way. If your usual suppliers are shut over a long weekend, a direct delivery can still move something across town, as long as someone is there to receive it.
For a regional delivery, tell us when it needs to be there and give us a contact at the far end. Each regional job gets its own fixed quote before you book.
How do you book a same-day taxi delivery?
Send us the addresses, contacts, size, weight and deadline, and we confirm a fixed price and a pickup time before the job is booked. Phone or WhatsApp is quickest for urgent jobs.
- Get the details together: both addresses and contacts, what the item is, its size and weight, when it's ready and when it has to arrive.
- Send them. Call or WhatsApp 0416 507 515, text 0406 929 730, email bookingsydneytaxi@gmail.com, or use the contact form and choose Parcel delivery as the service.
- Prefer the booking form? Enter the pickup and drop-off as usual, then write Parcel delivery and the item details in the notes.
- We confirm the fixed price and the pickup time by phone, email or WhatsApp.
- Pack and label the item, then hand it to the driver at the agreed time.
- We send updates on the way, and proof of delivery once it's handed over.
If your records need a particular kind of proof, such as the name of the person who received it or the time it arrived, say so when you book and we confirm what we can provide.
For an urgent job, call rather than email: we can ask what we need to know and confirm the price in one conversation. More on the service is on our parcel delivery page.
