Quick answer
From Sydney Airport to White Bay Cruise Terminal, take a pre-booked car or taxi to James Craig Road, Rozelle, approaching via The Crescent: on cruise days, vehicles are turned away at the Robert Street gates. Drop-offs at White Bay and the Overseas Passenger Terminal are limited to two minutes, and bag drop usually opens around 9am.
Which terminal is your ship using?
Sydney has two cruise terminals, and the airport run ends differently at each. The Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) is on Circular Quay West in The Rocks, with drop-off on the lower roadway off George Street at Argyle Street. White Bay Cruise Terminal is on James Craig Road, Rozelle, and on ship days cars can only get in via The Crescent.
Your cruise documents name the terminal. You can also check the Port Authority of NSW Sydney Harbour cruise schedule, which shows the terminal in its Berth name column. Don't assume a ship always uses the same one. On the November 2026 schedule, Carnival Adventure is due at the OPT on 6 November and at White Bay three days later. Schedules can change, so your cruise line has the final word.
When you book a cruise terminal transfer, tell us the ship and the terminal. The kerbside rules differ in ways that change how a pick-up works, and the table below sets them side by side.
| Detail | Overseas Passenger Terminal | White Bay Cruise Terminal |
|---|---|---|
| Address | Circular Quay West, The Rocks, on the corner of Argyle and George streets | James Craig Road, Rozelle |
| Way in by car on ship days | Lower roadway, entered from George Street at Argyle Street | The Crescent, then James Craig Road. Not Robert Street or Grafton Street |
| Drop-off and pick-up stop | Two minutes at most, driver stays in the vehicle | Two minutes at most, driver stays in the vehicle |
| Parking and waiting | No parking and no waiting bays on cruise days | Car park for short-stay pick-ups only, 15 minutes maximum |

| Airport rank fixed-fare trial | Inside the CBD trial area | Outside the trial area |
Sydney Airport to the Overseas Passenger Terminal
From either airport terminal, the drive ends on the OPT's lower roadway at Circular Quay West, entered from George Street at Argyle Street. Sydney Airport puts a taxi ride to the CBD at about 20 minutes. The OPT is at the harbour end of the city, and weekday peak traffic can add to that.
The stop at the terminal is short by design. The Port Authority asks drivers to stop for no more than two minutes, and for security reasons the driver can't leave the vehicle. Two minutes is plenty if everyone is ready to help get the cases out at the kerb. It's tight if four people are still hunting for a phone charger under the seats.
Rank taxi or pre-booked transfer?
If you take a taxi from the airport rank, the OPT is inside the Sydney CBD fixed-fare trial area on the Transport for NSW map. While the trial runs, a standard rank taxi to the CBD costs $60, and a maxi taxi $80 when it carries five or more passengers or you ask for one at the rank (wheelchair accessible trips excepted). Only a non-cash payment surcharge or a cleaning fee can be added on top. Transport for NSW describes it as an 18-month trial from 3 November 2025, so check it's still running before you count on it.
The trial only covers rank trips. A pre-booked transfer is priced by the company you book with, and with us that means a fixed quote confirmed before you book: the price quoted is the price you pay. Our Sydney Airport transfers also track your flight, so the driver adjusts the pick-up if you land early or late. For a closer look at rank fares versus booked quotes, see our guide to Sydney Airport maxi taxi fares.
Travelling light? The train works too. The Port Authority says Circular Quay Station is a five-minute walk (450 metres) from the OPT, with direct trains to the airport. With big cases or a group, door to door is easier.
Sydney Airport to White Bay Cruise Terminal
White Bay is on James Craig Road in Rozelle, west of the CBD, and on cruise days the only way in by car is from The Crescent onto James Craig Road. Robert Street in Balmain is not an entry point. Drivers who follow a map app that way are turned back at the Robert Street gates and redirected to The Crescent, and there's no access from Grafton Street either.
Once you're in, pick-ups and drop-offs happen directly outside the terminal, under the same two-minute rule as the OPT: the driver stays in the vehicle and the area is for passengers only. There's no long-term parking at or near the terminal, so driving yourself and leaving the car for the cruise isn't an option.
Watch the clock here, because of the bags. The Port Authority says there's no luggage storage at or near White Bay. Turn up before bag drop opens (usually around 9am) and you'll be minding your cases until it does, although there is a cafe in the terminal.
Fares work differently too. White Bay is outside the airport fixed-fare trial area, so a taxi from the rank charges a metered fare, capped at the regulated maximum. Transport for NSW says a maxi taxi from a rank can charge up to 150% of the regular fare when it carries five or more passengers, or when you request one at a Sydney Airport rank (wheelchair trips excepted). A pre-booked transfer gives you the price before you travel instead.
From CBD hotels and Central Station
From a CBD hotel, the OPT is usually the shorter run, since it sits at the northern edge of the city, while White Bay means heading west to Rozelle. For either terminal, work the pick-up time back from bag drop, which opens around 9am at both.
Give us the hotel's name as well as its address. Some city hotels have a driveway where a van can pull in off the road; others only have a kerb on a busy street, which changes where your driver stops and how fast everyone needs to load.
Is your group split across two hotels? Put both addresses in one booking. One maxi van that collects from each hotel and arrives at the terminal with everyone on board is simpler than two cars trying to unload at a two-minute kerb a few minutes apart.
Coming in by train? We pick up from Central Station and confirm the exact meeting spot when we confirm your booking. If hotel check-out is well before bag drop opens, ask whether the hotel will hold your bags until the pick-up, because White Bay has nowhere to leave them.
One more reason to stay the night before: a hotel near the harbour takes the flight out of the equation. A delay the day before costs you an evening in Sydney; a delay on sailing day can cost you the ship.
When does bag drop open, and when should you arrive?
Bag drop at both terminals usually opens around 9am. At the OPT it runs until about 90 minutes before the ship departs, and at White Bay until about an hour before. Both terminals ask you to arrive at least an hour before departure, and your cruise line gives you a check-in time if you haven't checked in online.
To time an airport-to-ship day, work backwards:
- Find your departure time and terminal in your cruise documents or on the Port Authority schedule.
- Take off 90 minutes for the OPT or an hour for White Bay. That's when bag drop closes.
- Take off the drive plus a traffic buffer. Flying in that morning? Take off the time it takes to clear the airport too.
- Check the result is after about 9am, when bag drop opens. If you land much earlier, book the transfer for later in the morning, or ask about a stop on the way when you book.
- Send us your flight number, ship, terminal and number of bags with the booking.
Here's how that plays out. Several ships on the November 2026 schedule leave at 3:30pm, which puts the OPT's bag drop close at about 2pm. Land at T1 at 9am and you have five hours, enough for a slow passport queue and a long lunch. Land at noon and you have two hours to clear the airport and cross the city, with no slack for a late bag on the belt.
Getting off the ship: where does your driver meet you?
At the OPT, booked cars meet passengers out the front of the terminal, near the palm trees. White Bay works the same way: out the front of the terminal. Either way, save your driver's number before you leave the ship: the Port Authority's advice is to ask the driver to call you on arrival.
Ships come in early. Of the eight arrivals listed on the schedule for 4 to 12 November 2026, seven are due at 6:30am and one at 6am. The Port Authority says passengers usually start coming off around 30 minutes after a ship arrives, though times vary. So book the pick-up for when your cruise line expects you off the ship.
Timing matters most at the OPT. There's no parking at the terminal on cruise days and no waiting bays for pick-ups, so nobody can wait at the door for you. The lower roadway has the same two-minute limit as drop-offs. The pick-up goes smoothly when you message your driver once you have your bags, then walk out to the palm trees.
One trap to avoid: in the morning, the OPT's taxi rank for passengers leaving ships is on Level 3, reached from Hickson Road. That rank is for rank taxis, and the Port Authority doesn't allow private pick-ups or drop-offs on the Level 3 access, so don't arrange to meet a booked car there.
White Bay is a little more forgiving. Its car park takes short-stay pick-ups for up to 15 minutes, and the taxi rank is directly outside the terminal, with staff on hand to guide you.
Flying out the same day? Tell us your flight time and terminal, T1 International or T2/T3 Domestic, and book the transfer from the ship with both in the notes.
How much cruise luggage fits in each vehicle?
Start with the suitcases. Tell us how many large cases, carry-ons, garment bags and mobility aids you're bringing, and we match the vehicle to the load. The table below shows passengers and luggage space for each vehicle in our fleet.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Typical models |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maxi Van | Up to 11 passengers | Large luggage space | Toyota HiAce, Mercedes Sprinter or similar |
| Maxi 7 Seater | Up to 7 passengers | Ample boot space | Kia Carnival, Hyundai Staria or similar |
| Premium SUV | 1-5 passengers | Standard luggage | Lexus RX, Toyota Kluger or similar |
| Executive Sedan | 1-4 passengers | Standard luggage | Lexus ES, Toyota Camry or similar |
| Wheelchair Taxi | Wheelchair + carer | Ramp or lift access | Wheelchair accessible maxi van or similar |
- A couple or a small family with standard luggage: the Executive Sedan or the Premium SUV.
- A family with large cases, or two couples sharing: the Maxi 7 Seater, with more boot space.
- Several families, or a group that wants to arrive together: our largest maxi van, with large luggage space.
- Anyone who travels in their wheelchair: a wheelchair accessible taxi, with ramp or lift access and room for a carer.
If you're unsure which fits, send us the number and size of the bags and we'll suggest one, or compare the vehicles on our fleet page.
Our hotel and cruise transfers run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including public holidays, so a 6:30am ship arrival or a pre-dawn flight is covered. Call or WhatsApp 0416 507 515 for a fixed quote.
Questions people ask
The simplest option is a pre-booked car or taxi to James Craig Road, Rozelle. On cruise days, vehicles can only enter via The Crescent and James Craig Road, and drivers who try Robert Street in Balmain are turned away at the gates. Drop-offs outside the terminal are limited to two minutes with the driver staying in the vehicle, and bag drop usually runs from around 9am until an hour before departure.
The Port Authority of NSW doesn't publish a distance or drive time from the airport. White Bay is on James Craig Road in Rozelle, west of the Sydney CBD, and Sydney Airport puts a taxi to the CBD itself at about 20 minutes. Traffic makes a big difference, so plan the trip backwards from the White Bay bag drop cut-off, about an hour before your ship departs.
It depends on the terminal. From the airport ranks, the Overseas Passenger Terminal is inside the CBD fixed-fare trial area: $60 in a standard taxi, or $80 in a maxi taxi with five or more passengers or one requested at the rank, while the trial runs. White Bay is outside the area, so rank taxis use the meter. The trial excludes pre-booked trips; Sydney Maxi Taxi quotes a fixed price before you book.
At the Overseas Passenger Terminal, the pick-up and drop-off area is on the lower roadway at Circular Quay West, entered from George Street at Argyle Street, and booked cars meet passengers out the front near the palm trees. Stops are limited to two minutes. In the morning, the taxi rank for passengers leaving ships is on Level 3 via Hickson Road, but private pick-ups are not allowed there.
Not for the length of a cruise. The Port Authority of NSW says there is no long-term parking at or near White Bay Cruise Terminal. The terminal car park is for short-stay pick-ups only, with a 15-minute maximum, and the drop-off area allows stops of up to two minutes. If you planned to drive and leave the car, get dropped off or book a transfer instead.
